A hydraulic lift is any piece of equipment that uses hydraulic cylinders for lowering or raising work platforms or other lifting devices. Hydraulic lifts support, lift and move heavy or large objects, as well as provide an ergonomically safe environment. Hydraulic lifts are useful in loading, positioning work material and personnel transports. The type of hydraulic lift that needs to be used depends on the platform style, mounting style and the material it moves. Typical lift types include table lifts, personnel lifts, dock lifts and fork and pallet lifts.

The purpose of table lifts and positioners is to position the work material at an ergonomically ideal access point. Truck or vehicle lifts are for loading purposes by lifting material to the level of the truck bed. These lifts are mounted to the back of a vehicle. Dock lifts are similar in that they are mounted on a dock for positioning material or personnel for loading purposes. Personnel lifts are devices that move workers to a material or work area, rather than move the material to the workers. These lifts are used in situations in which work needs to be done at great heights. Fork lifts and pallet lifts raise loads from the floor, using portable platforms called pallets. They are also used for loading or unloading, storage or working purposes. Tilt tables are like bins with four sides that are open at the top. They raise or lower and can tilt at an angle that is ergonomically optimal for the worker.

Hydraulic lift manufacturers are beneficial because they provide a product that reduces or eliminates the number of worker injuries related to repetitive stress injuries. Injuries occur when the physical necessities of the job do not match the physical capabilities of the worker. Placing the material at a level that is not awkward and not requiring an inordinate amount of force on the part of the worker creates an ergonomically ideal environment, reducing injuries. Hydraulic and industrial lifts are an efficient way to accomplish this in a variety of situations. Another benefit of using hydraulic lifts is that they are an efficient way to move material. Hydraulic lift manufacturers make some lifts that are moveable with wheels attached, while others can be mounted as part of a process line. Smaller hydraulic lifts are usually applied for holding and moving products in a manufacturing setting.

The tilting and height capacity of hydraulic lifts are important for maintaining an ergonomically safe environment for employees who engage in repetitive motion activities. Lifts can be controlled remotely or manually, depending on their size and purpose. Hydraulic lift manufacturers provided equipment for auto repair shops, production environments, warehouse facilities, construction sites and in many other applications. It is important to consider the strength and durability of a hydraulic lift, as well as the size and height requirements. Some lifts may have the weight capacity to lift a material or object but may not have the durability that matches the frequency or infrequency of use.

  • Aerial lifts are most often scissor lifts, which extend to dramatic heights, and are usually hydraulic.
  • Automobile lifts vary in type. Automobile lifts either lift the vehicle by pushing it up from underneath or pull it up from above.
  • Indirect acting lifts are suspension connections through ropes or chains that connect the cylinder or ram to the car or car sling.
  • Lift tables are platforms or tables that have adjustable heights; height variations can range from a few inches to dozens of feet, depending on the intended purpose. Lift tables are often hydraulic and can be scissor lifts.
  • Material handling lifts move inventory and material to different heights or levels for processing or stocking purposes.
  • Pallet lifts use hydraulic power to lift pallets.
  • Platform lifts are very similar to lift tables, except the platform is often larger and the lift is usually stronger for larger loads.
  • Rotary lifts are a type of hydraulic lift used in the automotive industry.
  • Scissor lifts are lifts that extend as they raise by a criss-crossing or accordion-like base. As the base extends, the platform or basket on top is elevated to the desired level.
  • Upenders lift on one side so material can slide off into or onto something else.
